Jayson Hale fell in love with snowboarding the hard way—by breaking his skis on a jump at age four. Fortunately his cousin was there, offering him a ride on a very big snowboard. He straight-lined it to the bottom and was hooked, ditching his skis for good. He started competing on his snowboard at age six and has been a member of the U.S. Snowboarding Team since SBX became an Olympic sport in 2003. The two-time X Games medalist was named to the 2006 Olympic team, but injuries kept him out of the action that year and again in 2010. In the off-season, when not training at Park City, Utah’s USSA Center of Excellence, Jason spends his time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and feeding a strong environmental ethic. He spent one summer building trails for the Sierra Nevada Alliance near his hometown of Sierraville, California. No slave to any fashion but his own, Jayson has been known to rock a blond mullet.
