K. C. Oakley, a onetime “weekend warrior” from Piedmont, California, is now a full-time threat on the freestyle moguls tour. K.C. joined Tahoe’s Alpine Meadows Freestyle Team at 13; by 17 she had directed all her energy toward the bumps. In 2011, the overall NorAm title and a silver at the U.S. National Championships earned her a spot on the U.S. Ski Team. With seven World Cup top-10 results, including a podium appearance, K.C. was named the 2012 FIS World Cup Rookie of the Year and won a spot on the A team. Her goals are clear: “Ski better, ski faster, jump bigger. I want to push my limits and see where that takes me.” K.C. also earned a psychology degree at UC Berkeley and is now pursuing an MBA. Her foundation, Jill’s Legacy, raises funds for lung cancer research in honor of her college roommate and best friend, Jill Costello, who died of lung cancer in 2010.
Gear Inspired by K.C.
Says K.C., “I am attracted to bright colors and unique patterns, and these slipper socks mix the best of both. They keep my toes warm during the winter and are especially comfortable to put on after taking off my ski boots.”
