The Designer

Marly Bird

Marlaina "Marly" Bird fled the world of financial services to launch her Yarn Thing podcast and hasn't looked back since. To Marly, a bi-craftsy girl who both knits and crochets, the yarn is the star not how you work with it. She's creative director for Bijou Basin Ranch Yarns and the co-author of Curvy Crochet (Leisure Arts, 2011). You've seen her designs in Knitter's Magazine, Knit Simple, Interweave Crochet, Interweave Knits, Knitscene, Inside Crochet, Wild Fiber, Crochet Today, Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet, and in the books Knitter's Book of Socks, Unexpected Afghans, Simply Crochet, Perfectly Plus and Knitting Plus. In her spare time she is a wife to a very understanding husband, raises three kids and teaches at her local yarn store in suburban Denver.

"Growing up in shadow of the Colorado Rocky Mountains most of my life I have a profound respect for snowboarders and skiers. That respect grew when I was a student athlete at the University of Colorado in Boulder and many friends were on that nationally ranked ski team. I saw first hand the amount of dedication it takes to be the best at that sport. Now that I am a Knitting and Crochet Designer, it thrills me to think that these fantastic athletes are sporting my fun and funky design on the slopes. "

Deb Armstrong

“Making a difference with people on the hill—making them happy, teaching them something, challenging them, exciting them" is what Deb Armstrong loves most about her job. Deb and her daughter live in Colorado’s “Ski Town, U.S.A.,” where Deb is alpine competitive program director for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and is involved in various charitable causes, including the SKIFORALL Foundation, which opens skiing events to the disabled.
Deb’s fun, brightly colored hat is patterned after the one she wore on her way to gold in Sarajevo.
